Abstract


Light rail system ("Light rail" or "Light Rail Transit" - LRT) is a particular class of urban public passenger railway with light vehicles of great capacity. Light rail system tends to be safest when operating with complete grade separation, but it is not always financially or phisically feasiable.
The object of this paper is the review and comparative analisys of the accessible literature and author’s experiance without the aspiration for popularization of that kind of public passenger transport in the sities.
The light rail track structure are classified into structures on descrete supports, either on sleepers in ballast bed or on slab, and structures continuously supported. For all of them the examples are presented. In that way the systematization of main existing track structure types of light rail system is carried out.
On the basiss of those data the comparative analysis of the light rail track structures in respect to several criterions is carried out. From that analysis ther resent conclusions will be derived.
